The new airport is quite far from the city, over an hour by taxi, which cost $26. Apparently there is a bus, but it only takes you to some terminal in the wrong part of town and then you still need a taxi. The roads were crazy, busy, wet, cobblestones, windy uphilly switchbacks. We climbed and climbed and finally the driver says we are in Quito. it began to look more presentable. My hostel is in La Tola, just a few blocks fron El Centro Historico. We had some trouble finding it, but the room is decent and the staff friendly. Up on the roof there is a screened terrace with the view you see here.
