Local fare

I ventured out for food and a sense of the neighborhood. I walked around the block at about 8:30pm (Quito is 1 hour ahead of east coast) and saw several eating establishments, all very local looking. I picked the one that was full of people and had one table empty. I did not know wht anything on the menu was, but a few items were 86'd, so I just randomly ordered and got a plate of rice with some potato soupish stuff with a little tripe and a hard-boiled egg. There was a sauce to add flavor to the rice. Quite tasty and the total was $4. By the way, gas here is $1.00/gallon. Factor that into your cost of living!
