Gary set me up for an overnight at Sacha Sisa, owned by Juan, who is his cousin. Gary drives me a half hour to meet Pablo with the motorized canoe and we zip up the river. The Napo becomes the Amazon somewhere off my map, downstream. In other words, it is a major tributary.
The lodge, or cabanas, called Sacha Sisi, means flower of the jungle. This is the flower after which it is named.
I am directed by Juan to rest for a bit and he will have someone take me to see a local organic pineapple growing operation. I am show to my room...
which is very clean and comfortable with solid mosquito protection (those are nets over the beds), but I hardly saw a mosquito the whole time!
This was the building with the guest rooms.
And this, the dining área. The whole place is up high above the river and above all the canopy across the river and catches a wonderful breeze that helps to cool you off after climbing the poured cement steps. It also helps keep the bugs away. The couple on the right were from France, traveling with three kids under 8 for 8 months around the world. He is a GP doctor and one of the kids was named Lucien!
