Exit Salinas

Descending from Salinas in the morning light. I missed the shot of locals bringing the daily milk up to the Quesera (Cheese Factory) by burro.

Gian Pablo and Lenin had said that summer bring sun and high winds to Salinas, but they had not seen the wind yet. Well, it was here this am. He coca tea only took the edge off the altitude sickness briefly and I slept terribly with the headache. The wind was howling at about 4am and when I got up at 6:15 there was the typical Equatorian hot water...Not. I skipped breakfast to catch an early camionetta down the hill to Guaranda. The driver took me right to the terminal for an extra dollar, althought the bus went riht by the road to Salinas, so I could have picked it up there at 8:30. It seemed to take the longer road, going by Chimborazo again. Different weather and different side of the bus. Although Chimborazo is several thhousand meters shorter than Everest, the claim to fame is that when you are on top, you are further from the center of the earth than the top of Everest, so there!

Chimborazo lurks in the clouds

Arco iris. I almos got a shot of the double one.
