Tur de Cuenca

The initial walk-around is goog for orienting the area between lodging and the center. I am finding, even though it so touristy, the bus tour is great for the larger overview and a bit of information. Saves a lot of walking time. In Cuenca it is $5 for about 2 hours.

The new cathedral is the gem of the city, with it's blue tiled domes. Built overa 100 yr span, it includes three different styles of architecture

Some streets in the Centro Historico have French flavored balconies of ornate iron work

Here are only 52 churches in Cuenca, one for each Sunday of the year.

Rio Tomebamba is one of four rivers in the city, flowing from Cajas National Park (Continental Divide)
Old style building on Calle Larga
Looking toward "New Town"
Cruising Calle de los Monumentos, there are twelve, honoring various contributors to the heritage and history of the region.

Puente Roto - Broken Bridge very old Roman style

Older housed overlook the river and have up to seven stories on the downhill side.

The 150 yr old school demonstrates Cuenca's commitment to education

We head to the church of Tuli, high on the hill to the west of the city.

View towar Old Town

These are all around. Lunch, anyone?

Loja St. THis used to be where the rich folk built their getaway homes

This traffic cop was too busy texting

In the market, I had ceviche of Sea Bass for $.50! He even gave me seconds!

Other food choices there...

I have been drinking "Mora" for weeks now...Thhis is what they look like. Deliciosas!
